USAC Officiating Class - Friday, February 11th at 5 PM
« on: January 24, 2011, 10:08:25 AM »
You can see most of the benefits of becoming an official here: http://talk.campusdakota.com/index.php?topic=5378.0

USA Cycling Regional Coordinator Larry Martin will be up for Bikecicle, so he's running a class for us on Friday night.  Once you're an official, you'll be able to get paid to watch bike races here in Grand Forks and back home during the summer.

Anticipated cost: $35, which covers your first year's official's license.

Class will start at 5 PM in the Memorial Room on the second floor of Memorial Union on UND Campus (2901 University Avenue, zoom in on the A in the map below).  Paid parking is available in the parking ramp to the east (2nd Avenue North; on the map below it looks like a parking lot, but it says "Parking Ramp"), otherwise there are streets to the North of University Avenue that you can park on if you can find a spot.

We need a list of people who are going to be there, so once you make up your mind, either post here or send an email to [email protected].  We need a minimum of five participants.  If you need to do anything additional to sign up (like get a USAC online account) I will let you know.

Attendees:
1. Beek
2. Logan
3. Joe
4. Sanders
5. Ted

Yost?
Nic?
YOU!

Though it sort of takes some loot out of our pockets, it may be worth mentioning this to the Fargo squad. Since it would involve expanding cycling in the area, and they'll need an official as well at some point?

To that end Beek, it may be worth mentioning to the blokes on the western end of the state as well?

We are on the schedule for the student governments SOFA meeting tomorrow to answer any questions about the officiating class, and what we need and junk. The meeting is at 6pm (on wednesday) I can't make it because I have class from 6-9 on wednesday's. Can anybody else go to this meeting?

I think it's Swanson 17...I know it should be in the basement there somewhere.  Where we had to go for SAC before, I'd imagine.

People, please let me know if you will be attending this class.  I need to schedule a room this week and can't do that unless I have an estimated number of people.

It was really chill, Larry had some good stories.  We got three large pizzas and ate them all while we were taking the test.

Is anyone who missed this interested in becoming an official NOW?

To be honest, we ended up in a pickle after the last officiating class, which was me, Sanders, Doublefist, and Ted.  In case you don't get the theme, these are all guys who like to race when racing comes to town, which leaves us stuck when it comes to hosting our own collegiate event.  If you are interested in becoming an official in North Dakota (which you can bring to your hometown in the summer and make some cash) but not so much in doing every race, I'd like to hear from you ASAP so I can potentially put on some fast moves.

People from out of town are welcome as well.

To be perfectly clear: we WILL pay you to officiate events, this isn't something where we hang you out to dry after you lay down $30 for the license.
