The Official Resource Thread.
« on: April 30, 2008, 09:28:08 PM »
A bunch of people were asking about some stuff on the ride this evening.

Two of the BEST BEST BEST resources EVER for cycling are:

1. http://sheldonbrown.com/

2. http://parktool.com/repair/byregion.asp

The 1st link is a website that was (until he recently passed away) maintained by Mr. Brown himself. He is considered by many to be THE definitive resource for all things cycling, and his website is far FAR more detailed than most people will ever actually need it to be. The site can be a bit confusing to navigate, but once you get it figured out the amount of information it can provide is vast. It has everything from lacing wheels, to gear ratio calculators, to frame repair, to riding styles. The layout might turn you off but I URGE you to check it out.

The 2nd link is the Park Tool Company website. While I'm not endorsing their product, nor am I suggesting otherwise, they have how-to's for repair along with some visuals. Its fairly helpful with a basic understanding of bicycles. *note* the "Select your region" isn't a continent thing, they mean bicycle region. So don't say I posted the wrong link.  :P

Anyways, I highly recommend checking both of these websites. Furthermore, if anyone has any how-tos that they would like to post or good to very good web resources, please feel free to add them to this list.

Those who may not be aware:

www.chainlove.com and www.bonktown.com

Both based off of the steep and cheap websites.

I'm going to bump this.

I think it's really pretty important for our Officers to know as much about bicycles as possible. At the very least, you should be able to offer advice on changing a tire, or what type of chain lube to use. You can click through Sheldon Browns website and learn millions of things or use park tools website (they have service guides) to see how a specific repair is supposed to be performed.

No one is saying you need to be a mechanic, but as a leader in this organization, you should certainly be able to change a flat PROPERLY while on a ride.

If anyone has questions... please ask.

Brian (pmp6nl) asked me to write up an article about the club for the front page of Campus Dakota.  It can be found here: http://www.campusdakota.com/node/248

With Quick-Reply you can write a post when viewing a topic without loading a new page. You can still use bulletin board code and smileys as you would in a normal post.
