A 26-year-old Fargo man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with a hit-and-run accident Saturday that killed an 18-year-old woman.Torri Ellis Knutson of East Grand Forks, Minn., died at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo after a vehicle hit her in the 1300 block of North University Drive at about 2:53 a.m.Michael Paul Sauvageau was charged today with Class B felony manslaughter, Class B felony duty in an accident involving death or injury and Class B misdemeanor driving under the influence.According to Cass County District Court documents:Several witnesses saw someone driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee strike Knutson while she was crossing the street and then leave the scene.Knutson was taken to the MeritCare, where a doctor told police she had suffered a broken right humerus, multiple fractured ribs, a lung contusion and a severe head injury. She was pronounced dead at 5:36 a.m.While police went back to the station to log Knutson’s clothing as evidence, they received a call from Sauvageau’s father who said his son was in an accident and acting strange.Sauvageau told police he had hit something, but wasn’t sure what it was before asking for a lawyer. An officer noted his breath smelled of alcohol during the interview.The vehicle he was driving matched the description of the vehicle at the scene and was also missing a part that was found at the scene.Sauvageau is scheduled to make an initial court appearance in Cass County District Court this afternoon.Read the full story in Tuesday’s Forum.http://www.in-forum.com/articles/printer.cfm?id=165699
