News from the road: Tour de Husker 2012
« on: March 24, 2012, 08:35:27 AM »
I'll update this thread as I get any information.  A race preview is here: http://collegiatecyclingnews.com/conferences/ncccc/ncccc-travels-to-the-tour-de-husker

Six riders are traveling this weekend (AFAIK): Logan Evans, Andrew Mills, Jordan Riley, Peter Olejniczak, Kyle Johnson, and Gina Villani.

As always, updates may be available by checking at http://nc-cycling.com/ or following the club on Twitter or Facebook.

Not only that, but UND is sweeping up the team points in Division 2 as well.  I can't find any overall race results but I'll keep looking.

*'What's this "Division 2" thing?' you may ask.
*In collegiate cycling there are two divisions based on school size.  Although each race (A, B, C, D) contains all the riders from that category in the conference, the conference team and individual omnium (overall) points are distributed by division placement.

Tour de Husker scoring: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AuYWJkxTXsZ_dDF1MktDWFlHNUIycEdtUVdYaHNzQnc&gid=0

Road Race
Logan Evans, A, 1st in D2
Peter Olejniczak, C, 1st in D2
Andrew Mills, C, 2nd in D2
Gina Villani, C, 1st in D2
Kyle Johnson, D, 1st in D2

Team Time Trial (scored according to top rider, so with Logan the team gets A points)
UND, A, 2nd in D2
This is an interesting turn of events: UND gets 110 points for being an A team in the TTT, but St. Olaf fielded three whole TTT teams (C men, D men, C women) and beat them out by one point in the team omnium scoring.

*Wait, so what does 'omnium' mean again?
*An omnium is a points competition over multiple events.  There are multiple types of omnia going on.  The first is team omnium, which adds up all the points a team gets over the course of a season.  The second is individual omnium, which is all the points each rider gets.  Finally, as you can tell by the name 'Tour de Husker,' there are sometimes stage race omnia, which are the points gained (by a team or individual) over the course of a set number of races.  In the next link, this last type of omnium can be found under the 'Team scoring for weekend' tab.

NCCCC Individual Omnium: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0Agy7qp_4W31AdEliR2VhVXZzWWRydC1FeVR5enFyeGc&gid=5

Individual Rankings for Division 2
Men's A: 1st, Logan Evans
Men's C: 1st, Andrew Mills
              2nd, Peter Olejniczak
              4th, Jordan Riley
Women's C: 4th, Gina Villani
Men's D: 3rd, Kyle Johnson
