LAN Within Residence Halls?

Since the Internet connection is linked and shared among residence halls, is it possible to set up a LAN game with anyone else in the hall? Incoming freshman here so havent gotten a chance to see for myself.

While I havent checked myself I have heard that it is possible and people often will often create lans  (I have heard of examples of both lans with PC's and with Xbox's).

Maybe someone else will post on here to comfirm this...

yeah ive checked that site, I know people will put lans together in one area, just wondering if say i make a LAN game in a freshman residence hall, if a friend down a floor could join it? I know that bandwidth is shared there, maybe theyre all connected to the same terminal as well?

I believe that you can, I will see if I can get ahold of my buddy in its and check.

If anything you could always do a wireless lan.

Can I connect my game console to
the network in the Residence Halls?

In the past, NDSU has only allowed network access for academic
purposes only. This did not include gaming or the use of
game consoles in the Residence Halls. This policy has recently
changed. We now allow the use of registered game consoles on
our network.

The use of your game console on our network will not count
against your bandwidth quota if you stay within NDSU?s network.
If you go outside of NDSU?s network, it will count toward
your daily bandwidth quota.

Registration is very simple. Please gather the following information
before going to the registration page.

You can register your game console by going to
https://netreg.ndsu.nodak.edu/gameprototype.html.

1. You need your Electronic ID. (This is not your
CampusConnection userid; it generally follows the format of
firstname.lastname.) And your password. You can activate your
Electronic ID and set up a password by going to http://
enroll.nodak.edu.

2. What type of game console do you have? Do you have an
Xbox, Playstation, and/or GameCube?

3. Your game console?s MAC address. You can find directions to
get this by going to https://netreg.ndsu.nodak.edu/
machelp.html.
