Designing DowntownAmy Dalrymple, The ForumPublished Thursday, August 07, 2008Ceilings in North Dakota State University’s Klai Hall won’t be finished when the building opens in downtown Fargo this fall. It’s that way on purpose. The building that will house architecture students doubles as a teaching tool.Wires, pipes and air ducts normally hidden by ceiling tiles will remain exposed.“They are teaching architects about buildings, so they didn’t want to cover up what goes into a building,” said Terry Stroh, the architect for NDSU’s two downtown projects...Richard H. Barry HallThe building, named for the late Fargo business consultant Richard H. Barry, will be NDSU’s third-largest at 135,000 square feet. The Memorial Union and the Bison Sports Arena are larger. The new College of Business facility, Richard H. Barry Hall, will feel more corporate than academic, Stroh said.Right inside the main entrance, the lobby will have an electronic ticker with stock prices...Now NDSU is adding a three-story classroom wing, an atrium and a 10-sided tower with a 280-seat auditorium. The existing building is being renovated for faculty offices. The project will cost an estimated $15 million, paid for with private donations...
