NDSA neutral on tuition freeze?  What's up with that?
by Sal Atticum

I got this last week from Mike and Tyrone:
Students,

Did you see the headline "Students Neutral on Freeze"

BISMARCK — Legislators heard Monday why tuition rates should be
frozen for North Dakota college students, but one key group did not
speak for the proposal — students themselves. The North Dakota Student
Association, representing students at the 11 publicly funded campuses,
has a neutral stance on the bill...

The North Dakota Student Association is the group that represents you
at the State Legislature. You can vote and be a part of the
organization, or just find out what goes on there. We'll give you a
free ride to the meeting, a free dinner and breakfast and $23.40 to get
any other food you may desire. We leave on Fridays around 2 p.m. from
the Union and return on Saturdays around 2 or 3 p.m. To sign up, come to
the Student Government Office and ask the person at the front desk for
information.

Our next meeting is THIS Friday, February 6th.

So I'm a little late posting this, because the bill was defeated on February 9th (see below). It looks like there is an alternative that has not been officially voted on that would freeze tuition at two-year schools only.

I think it had to do with an incomplete deal; there were not enough details and supposedly there could be some bill amendments introduced or something...

I am a little concerned about UND paying people to go to NDSA.

This topic is locked, but you can still comment at http://www.campusdakota.com/node/10608

(for example, if you know whether students will be getting paid to attend NDSA meetings in the future)
