Just when you were beginning to think that growing up in North Dakota was a bad thing . . .

FARGO, N.D. -- The president of an Anchorage information technology company has come to North Dakota to find workers.

"There are many parallel similarities between Alaska and North Dakota," said Steve Dike, president of Arctic Information Technology. "Alaska is all about adventure and opportunity."

Dike, whose company is a Microsoft Corp. partner and reseller based in Anchorage, attended a job fair in Fargo this week. He said he is recruiting students for their work ethic and because he thinks they are a perfect fit for life in Alaska.

"The kids are very well-educated and they have a great work ethic. They understand responsibility," Dike said.

Once he finds good candidates, Dike will bring them to Alaska to tour the company and the area "to make sure it's going to be a good fit for them," he said.

A few months before graduating in May 2006, Matt Borkowski, a University of North Dakota graduate, toured the company. He now has been working for Arctic Information Technology for almost a year and a half.

"It was my first time to Alaska and I was just blown away," he said.

"There are a lot of Midwesterners up there," Borkowski said. "People from North Dakota and Minnesota can handle Alaskan winters."

Nice article.  I keep hearing about the great work ethic.... Now how to turn that into having interest to do things while at school (IE: helping out in orgs, causes, etc)

Good luck with that.  I haven't seen people interested in helping out with much of anything since I've been here.

What causes are you interested in?

I think it has more to do with the "handling the winter" part. :)
