Its exciting, we even have our own live countdown here (http://www.campusdakota.com/ubuntu.php)!

Read up more about it at:

I have been testing it for about a week, its pretty nice.  I will be switching over to Linux permanently with this release... exciting!

I'm not sure what you mean by that and if your smb shares are different than mine. But with my old setup running 9.04 I just shared the folder in windows the usual way I would on the network. then on my ubuntu box went to the \\mycomputername location and it was right there... There is a package group you add in the install programs thing for windows file sharing...

Are you setting it up another way?? My linux server that had smb windows shares was easily found also in 9.04

Maybe I'm still running 9.10 instead of 10.whatever...I upgraded from 9.4 to 9.10 I think and it broke the ability to access smb shares (most importantly my AppleTime Capsule).

Sal are you just trying to share files, or printers and such?

Just files.  I'll have to look up the details and see if it's working now when I get some time.

Yay! I'm excited for the new Ubuntu also! I love that they have everything completely free and the computer doesn't restart every time it updates, unlike windows!

I love when windows randomly decides to restart on you to install updates... so much user choice :sarcasm:

Haha, this happened in biometry class last week--you'd hear people swearing all of a sudden because they were in the middle of typing R code and the computer would just restart.

Haha, that's lame... stupid Microsoft.  It would be nice if we got to decide when to restart (or even better not have to restart at all).  It happened to me the other day, all the more reason to switch:

I'm running 9.10--it was the .10 upgrade that broke SMB sharing.  LUCKILY it looks like it's been fixed, because I made things work today, no sweat!

Sweet, what was wrong with it?  I am dual booting with 9.10, I like it but im really excited for 10.04.. you gonna make the switch?

It was an official bug with the release (I wasn't the only one), so I assume one of the recent updates fixed it.

I doubt I'll upgrade straight away since the server (running 9.10 server) probably won't benefit too much and I'd rather have some free time before I have to fix a bunch of problems with the server caused byt he upgrade.

Its here!!!  The servers are slow for downloading but the torrent is really fast.  I was averaging 1.3 megs a second!

I love reading slashdot discussion about it. :D  (http://news.slashdot.org/story/10/04/29/1319210/Ubuntu-Linux-1004-Review-Lucid-Lynx?art_pos=18)

that moving the button location is a big anoyance of mine... Now i have to mod the GUI just to get them to where they belong... arg!

College class uses Fedora anyway... Looks like with 13 coming out soon, I'll be just sticking with that. be interesting for the server version though.

I am using 10.04 right now and im loving it!   The button change is extremely easy, took me about 30 seconds.

Lots of stuff to check out and customize.  Ill report back once I have had a chance to play with it more.

Fedora will probably be cool, definitely something to play with once it comes out.

I just downloaded it. Need to get another hard drive for me to install it on my main computer to see how it fares.... Off the CD of course right away. Multi-monitor Fail. Supports multiple monitors... I just can't tell it which one is primary display... apparently they just want me to dig behind my tower and swap cables around... :( It was easier to set up compared to 8 or 9.04/9.10 though.

One day, they will realize many people do in fact use 2 or 3 monitors.... I feel oppressed and limited when I only have 1... =/

Meest how do you use the multiple monitors?  Different apps on each or what?

Guardrail, yea I figured I would crash the server while I played around with the new Ubuntu ;)  Na, it was some sort of hard drive corruption or something.

Using my logic... I AM the server.

Cue the dream sequence...

*In an informative voice* For visual reference to relate the dream sequence, watch Seinfeld episode 918 "The Frogger" and recall the scene where Elaine is eating Petermans ancient cake and begins dancing around.

Meest how do you use the multiple monitors?  Different apps on each or what?
Yes. I'll have a video playing on one while doing homework/web surfing on the other. Or playing a game on one and have a walk through/info about what i'm attempting to do in the game on the other. I know i've said this before, but i wish programers would get their shit together and not minimize the video I have maximized when i click to my second monitor (YOUTUBE AND THE LIKES I'M LOOKING AT YOU! F'ing Flash) Support multi-monitor. I have more friends that roll with at least 2 screens than ones that do not. At work I'm finally getting 2 monitors. 1 to have my outlook up while I manage and respond to 3 mail boxes for information requests and the other for peoplesoft case reviews and interoffice chat between locations.

How many video cards do you see now days with only 1 monitor output?? I can't be the only one that wants more work space in the form of more monitors, and not larger single monitor. The physical division is quite a blessing actually.

I'm running two monitors on the pc in my office; it definitely helps when doing graphics or map stuff.  On the laptop I'm currently running six workspaces with different windows in each since I don't have another monitor and I like sitting on the couch.

I only have one monitor, but wouldnt mind more.  Sal, is there a certain way you divide up the windows on the workspaces?  I am thinking about using them since ubuntu has it built in and I am trying to get the most out of my switch.
