Title: What is your favorite subject?
Post by: Admiral Ackbar on February 17, 2008, 07:49:25 PM
I think it tells a lot about you what you like to do.  I really mean what your favorite one is, even if you hate it!  There's another question, what is your best/worst subject?

I love biology, but I think I'm better at math or philosophy than anything else.  You'd think it would be the other way around!

Physics.

Theoretical Physics really... too bad this univ doesn't believe in that.

Guardrail, what IS your major, anyway?

If theoretical physics doesn't work out, philosophy is always pretty close.

My major is "officially"

Flight Education
and
Commercial Aviation

With a minor in Meteorology.

There are however... some extrenuating circumstances that may prevent all of that. No... its not because I failed. I'll fill u in sometime... its a lengthy story.

Edit: Theoretical physics from a philosophical standpoint doesn't interest me much. Though I realize they may have similarities... Im specifically interested in string theory and light speed.

How do you understand string theory and light speed without having a firm grounding in the theory?  And how is the theory much different from a philosophical discussion anyway, since we're on the edge of what we can understand at this point anyway?

Who says I don't have a firm grounding in the theory?

Also... you are correct about the philosophical standpoint. The trouble is... I feel that philosophers (modern ones at least) are all simply idea men. They sit and ponder and get no further. Theoretical physicists actually take what has some possibility of being true and try to prove it. Its more factual than ponderous I suppose.

Moreover... philosophy has many many MANY facets. I mean... one can philsophize about anything. Theoretical physicists deal with physics.

Perhaps I should take a philosophy class before I make judgments regarding what exactly encompasses philosophy.

Hmmm....
