Now keep in mind these are photo stats only.  This does not include all of the other stuff:

1.7 billion user photos

2.2 billion friends tagged in user photos

160 terabytes of photo storage used with an extra 60 terabytes available

60+ million photos added each week which take up 5 terabytes of disk space

3+ billion photo images served to users every day

100,000+ images served per second during our peak traffic windows

Apparently they are shooting for a petabyte of photos before April 2008.  Thats 1,000,000,000,000,000 bytes

That is just crazy.  From what I hear they have more photos then the next 3 websites combined.


The funny thing about Facebook is that they got lucky.  They have received over 38 million in investment capital (http://static.ak.facebook.com/press/facebook_timeline.pdf?11:44617).  They hit it at the right time and secured the resources to make it big.  Now the question is, is it a fad or will it live on..

I think that if they stop messing with it so much, it will probably survive.  If the profile's become to different, it'll be just like myspace and impossible to find the information you are looking for.

Update on the whole profile thing: they are changing the look of the profile again... to make it more simple and more "clean"  I will take a screen shot and post it.
