Feb 28, 2009: Red River Valley Home and Garden Show at Fargodome

The featured speakers at 2009s Home and Garden Show are a representation of the show itself: straight up home and garden! Marcus Hunt, of HGTVs TV show, Hammer Heads, will give an energetic, innovative look at ways to fix up your home while keeping a tight budget in mind. Harlan Hamernik, a seasoned nurseryman from Nebraska, will discuss unique plant options for yards in the northern plains. Decidedly, Hunt and Hamernik will bring very different styles and perspectives to the 2009 show. Hunt is a 20-something, admitted adrenaline junkie and self-taught expert in the business of fixing up and selling houses. On HGTVs Hammer Heads, he is one of a team of three builders coming to the aid of homeowners. They complete substantial building projects over the course of a single weekend. At the Home and Garden Show, Hunt will offer two seminars covering tips on cost-effective, easy ways to give your home a cosmetic makeover. Titled Lipstick on a Pig and Trading Your Pig for a Dancing Pony, the seminars offer a lot of bang for the buck by covering changes homeowners can make with paint, cabinets, flooring, door/cabinet knobs, light fixtures and more. Hamernik is a 70-something Nebraska native that started Bluebird Nursery with his wife, Shirley, in 1958 as an outgrowth of a hobby. His plant legacy at Bluebird, now run by his three sons, includes more than 40 introductions, which have been implemented in gardens around the world. A cold-weather native, Hamernik is an expert on plants that can be used in extreme North Dakota/Minnesota weather. He advocates for plant diversity in communities to avoid the potential for widespread problems and disease in a world full of yards landscaped with the same species. His seminars are titled Great Plants for the Great Plains and Trees & Shrubs for the Northern Plains. Seminars will also be offered by Platinum Sponsor Accent Kitchen and Bath.
