Wind tunnels
« on: October 07, 2009, 06:10:21 PM »
We were talking about small-scale wind tunnels today to solve a problem for class, which got me thinking about what it would take to build a cyclist-sized wind tunnel to test in.  Apparently it's a little more than building a big box and putting a fan at the end.

Oh well. Stupid laminar flow.

Maybe someone on campus should help us write a grant.

Discuss.

I haven't responded to this post because your statements are correct and seemingly require no further discussion.

Hey Mario, sounds like an application for VERN  ;D
Life is complex.  It has a real part and an imaginary part.

Indeed...Dave...indeed
The minimum number of bikes one should own is three.  The correct number is n+1, where n is the number of bikes currently owned.  This equation may also be re-written as s-1, where s is the number of bikes owned that would result in separation from your partner.

lets build it... no problem, if we can find a 200hp engine, and a place to build it (beeks apartment) the hard part is over!

200hp! What kind of wind speeds do we need? Are we trying to make the tunnel fly? Or just blow some sand around?

I agree that beeks apartment should have more gasoline powered devices operating inside it though.

Maybe up to a 30 MPH headwind?  If we're going to get Mario as aero as he can be, that would be the place to test him.

I saw nothing in my lease agreement against running 200hp gasoline engines in my apartment.
