Web site’s redesign offers wider format, enhanced searchability

North Dakota and western Minnesota’s most popular news Web site unveiled a redesign this morning.

The new inforum.com showcases a wider format, better site search functions and helps advertisers and readers better connect through the use of keywords in stories and ads.

Stories and advertising are assigned search words that readers can then use to find related stories or advertising on the site, similar to how Google works.

As with any redesign, the new site will take some getting used to, said Matthew Von Pinnon, editor of The Forum, which runs the site. Things readers are used to finding in places yesterday may be in different places today, but all the content they’ve come to expect from inforum.com will be on the new site, he said.

Visitors going to the site will be asked to log in again, as if they’ve never used the site before. Those who have registered with the site before can simply use their former login and password but, if they’ve forgotten their password, they’ll have to select a new password. As before, the site is still free of charge.

Also, beginning today, The Forum’s Web site address is inforum.com, not in-forum.com with a dash.

Last month, inforum.com was visited by 312,494 people who viewed 7.9 million pages, according to Google Analytics, which objectively tracks Web site traffic and trends. Those readers spent an average of 10 minutes, 8 seconds on the site, each looking at just under five pages.

In December, 12 percent of those visitors were new to the site.

Inforum.com was first launched 12 years ago today.

I like the new design, I personally think it is much better then the old site... which felt old and boring to me.  I would assume they will be phasing this design to other websites Forum Communications controls like the Grand Forks Herald.

Now I just hope they fix their event feed and make all articles free.

The Herald website is not very good.  It's readable, but the commenting feature is set up horribly and the layout is poorly designed with slow javascript.
JUST EXTRA POLISH. I DO SOME WORK WITH EXCELL SO I KEEP THE CAPS LOCK ON :-P

Comments are terrible.  I hate that you have to login to see articles... I mean, seriously?
