Last week, by the way.  I wish we got an email like this every week, so we had time to contact our reps.

What's going on in Student Senate this week:

This Sunday at Senate there will be one resolution and three bills
coming to the floor. Here is a brief summary of each. To voice your
opinions on these issues, come to Student Senate at 6:00pm, in the River
Valley Room.

SB 0809-18 – (Fixes the Hyslop Hot tub) Proposes matching funds with
the Athletic Department to repair the Hyslop Hot tub, up to $5,000. This
bill is the result of multiple conversations with Brian Faison (Director
of Athletics) and Brian Strom (Aquatics Director).

SB 0809-19 – This bill, if passed, would fund the Collegiate
Readership Program to full usage for the rest of the year. That means
newspapers would stop running out at distribution points. After asking
for a quote from USA Today, we were told we would need an estimated
$10,084 to fund the program at full usage for the rest of the year. To
be safe, the bill asks for $10,500.

SB 0809-20 – This bill, if passed, would provide $5,000 to start a
Fall event similar to "the Big Event" in the spring, called The Grand
Forks Give. The event would be a day of student service to the Grand
Forks Community. A committee has already been set up to run the Grand
Forks Give, but it needs funding to begin planning and operations.

SR 0809-07 – This resolution would show Senate’s support for a
Citrix Systems initiative. This initiative would move the majority of
campus software onto a central server.  This would significantly
decrease the number of computer labs on campus and the number of
software licenses that the school would have to purchase. The money
would be taken from other technology fee projects.

See you there!

Sincerely,

Tyrone & Mike
