Build a "useable" 'cross bike
« on: October 22, 2010, 12:34:09 PM »
We've got a 56 cm road frame hanging around the department that needs some love.  It has 45 and 60 mm tire width clearance front and rear, respectively.  It could fairly easily be made into a singlespeed 'cross bike to be ridden in, say, an upcoming cyclocross series.

Note that it does not have mounts for cantilever brakes, so it isn't something you'd want to race 'cross on for the rest of your life.  It's also probably not the lightest thing in the world, but you know what?  You want to race 'cross and you need a bike.

What it needs:
27" tires (such as these)
a brake cable hanger (like this one but someone should have one around)
maaaaybe new bar tape
maaaaybe new brake levers if you want them

If you'd like such a project for the week, post up and we'll see what we can do.  Another option might be for the club to spot some money for parts keep this bike as a loaner, but that would need to go through the finance committee.
