In 1987, half a million gays and lesbians marched on Washington, DC in support of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered (GLBT) rights. One year later, National Coming Out Day was founded. National Coming Out Day is a day when members of the GLBT community gather nation-wide to promote GLBT equality and to increase the community's visibility.
On October 11, 2007, GLBT persons and straight allies across the country will hold rallies in support of the GLBT community. Here in Grand Forks, the University of North Dakota's Ten Percent Society will host a series of weeklong events to mark this important occasion. 2007 is also the group's 25th anniversary, so this is an even more important milestone for the GLBT community in Grand Forks.
Even though this email was from the
Ten Percent Society at UND, Coming Out Day is a National event. Support your local GLBT community!
