There will be a mandatory volunteer meeting on Thursday at 6 PM on the second floor of Memorial Union on UND campus.  We'll have a sign or bicycle up outside one of the meeting rooms to show where we are.

It's important that volunteers are present at this meeting simply so everyone knows what is going on and where everyone needs to be.  There will be maps and diagrams.  I will not be assigning people to a specific volunteer location until this meeting.

Trying to figure out my schedule for next weekend.  Unfortunately, we have friends staying that weekend and between their 6mo-old and our 1-mo old I will probably be limited to helping only for a race or two.  Whatever race I help out with I will bring my camera gear to to get some good shots.

When can you help out/what do you want to do, Tim?
You should be fine in a Men's D road race.  Check out the race info thread to get news for new racers as there will (hopefully) be a number of you.

Thanks Jon and Tim!

Hey,
Its Tim, I can help out, I am pretty sure that you already have my contact info just let me know when you need me.  How slow is the mens D level?  I have a new back wheel and been getting some road time lately before the snow I could use a race or two.

All right people, this is where we need to call in all the favors we have and find some people who will help us out at our home race weekend...which will also be the 2011 NCCCC ROAD RACE and TEAM TIME TRIAL CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Dates: Saturday, April 30th and Sunday, May 1st

We need as many people as you know.  Seriously.  I mean you when I type that--the person reading these words right now.  Even if you haven't done anything for or with the club all year, now is the chance to pull your weight and help throw a grand party of a race weekend for our collegiate allies AND anyone else coming into town to take advantage of the non-collegiate races.  So clear your schedule as much as you can and start typing your reply.

All volunteer stuff needs to go through this thread, so no stopping me on the street and telling me you think you can be available for whatever time; we need hard commitments all in one place.

Q: But can't I race?  I want to race!
A: You can!  But when you aren't racing, you should be helping out.  We can especially swap people out between races on Saturday for the crits.  Why not race yourself and bring along someone to fill your spot on the corner AND cheer you on at the same time?

Here are the spots we need to fill.  Please see our website for course locations and detailed maps.

Homestays
We will need homestays available for teams coming into town from as far away as Kansas.  Teams will generally arrive late Friday night, spend all day (7 or 8 AM until after 5) Saturday racing, and then leave after the race on Sunday morning.  If you are willing to help these poor, starving college students out by letting them sleep on your floor, we'll get an estimate of the number of people you can take and the number of racers coming and match you up, then you can coordinate with them directly.  We stay with people all season and avoid paying hundreds of dollars for hotels, so it's important that we're able to let people stay in return.

Keeping traffic and pedestrians off the racecourse and keeping the riders safe.
Course shutdown.  Seeking 4+ volunteers.
Arrive at 2:15 PM.  Done when done.
Taking down barriers and picking up crash debris (I'm kidding...).

Saturday (April 30th) Team Time Trial in Merrifield
Turnaround Marshals.  Seeking 2 volunteers
Arrive at 4 PM.  Job is completed by 5:30 PM.
Set up the cone about 5 miles west of Merrifield and make sure no motorists hit the teams as they ride around it to head back.  Coordinate with timer at start/finish if necessary to record splits.
Course Marshals.  Seeking 2 volunteers
Arrive at 4 PM.  Job is completed by 5:30 PM.

Arrive at 4 PM.  Job is completed by 5:30 PM.
Control traffic at start/finish line to let motorists know they are entering a race course.

Sunday (May 1st) Road Race in the middle of nowhere
Registration.  Seeking 2 volunteers
Arrive at 8:00 AM.  End around 9:00 AM.
Running the registration table.  Money, numbers, start lists, questions.
Corner Marshals/Sweepers.  Seeking 10+ volunteers
Arrive at 8:15 AM.  Job is completed (hopefully) by 12:30 PM.
Sweep assigned corner (bring a push broom!) and control access of motorists, especially when riders are nearby on the course.  Coordinate with start/finish line to update officials on race progress.  At least one person per corner will need a vehicle for this job.
