Title: Hockey Ticket Distribution
Post by: Red on September 18, 2006, 08:52:26 AM
Sunday marked yet another failed attempt to distribute hockey tickets. :bs:  When are these guys going to pull their heads out of their asses and realize that camping was the best way to get things done?

I still think letting students in free with an ID would be the way to do it.

Place your bets on to whether it works this Sunday or not.

Also, who are the 74 who got them?

Whatever happens on Sunday doesn't matter.  The entire system will change again next year anyway, just like it did every year I went to UND.  There never will be a plan that makes everyone happy or a perfect system.  The only way to solve the problem is to stick with a system and stop changing it.  In a few years, it will be a non-issue.  Why?  Because students will accept it as the way things are.  Hopefully then, StuGov can actually tackle issues that matter.  A few examples would be increasing ConnectND fees and increasing tuition.  None of North Dakota's $527 million budget surplus will go to higher education if no one has the balls to lobby for it.  Then again, it is easier - and probably more fun - to fiddle with hockey tickets and give a shitload of money to the UPC for a crappy spring concert.

I couldn't agree more.  students are gonna complain no matter what, and too much energy is wasted on this distribution system. apparently the biggest issue students care about is their gosh darn hockey tickets. i think an online system has "potential" but since it's new it would take more time to develop. I'd say, combine last years process with this years. register for tickets online, have a drawing go over a week or so period. but thats me. If people want to wait in line, lets bring that back, and StuGov can focus on more serious issues. like rising tuition and fees. and trust me, that money from the legislature will be lobbied for. it's a serious problem. i do not want to see such a high increase in tuition next year. it's a problem. so is parking. among other things. i could go on and on.  trust me there are a lot bigger problems than hockey. And I think STuGov would gladly give up distributing hockey tickets after this year.

bring back und's version of Hockey Fest! when i was a freshmen the true Sioux hockey fans waited outside for a week in the cold weather in tents just to see there team play! thats the fair way to see who the true fans are, also with this way there wouldnt be many idiots who buy tickets just to turn around and sell them for over 200 bucks (which is scalping). To all of those people who do that i have no respect for you because you are taking tickets from people WHO REALLY WANT THEM!

it was very simple when i was at the university of texas

go down to the stadium the week before the game, show your ID, get up to 4 tickets free.

It was even simpler at SLU:  Show your ID at the game, get in free.

allowing students to get tickets at any time before the game though eased lines going into the stadium (ie - there are no lines going into the stadium on gameday) as you spread out the time needed to check ID over the whole week instead of the hour before the game!

:-)

easy.

I'm bad at planning ahead, as are many people.  Say you casually decide to meet some people at the hockey game--it can't happen if you need tickets beforehand.
