Human remains found at UNDBy Joseph MarksHerald Staff Writer - 10/17/2007Human remains were found today in a grassy, tree-lined patch between the Chester Fritz Auditorium parking lot and the UND president's house, according to UND Provost Greg Weisenstein, who was on the scene about 6 p.m.Police on the scene this evening would not describe the nature of the remains and said more details would be released Thursday.A large oblong area was cordoned off with police tape, and a smaller area in the middle was blocked off with orange construction fencing. Piles of dirt and broken branches were visible inside the cordoned investigation scene and a small backhoe appeared to have been digging in the area.UND police, state Highway Patrol and Bureau of Criminal Investigation officers were working at the scene as dusk fell. The Highway Patrol was called to the scene around 4 p.m., said Sgt. Dolf Oldenburg, but UND police may have responded earlier.By 7 p.m. about a dozen workers had constructed a green and white tent over the site and set up floodlights.Reach Marks at (701) 780-1105 or [email protected].
