What do you need?  It might be better if you have more than one question that we talk on AIM or some such.

So I renamed the root account on CentOS the other day just like you can rename the Administrator account in Windows.  I did it by editing /etc/passwd.  Now I can't login as root anymore, or "su -" and this causes problems in trying to administrate things...is there any way to recover this?

ok, A) Never edit the /etc/passwd file. That is a bad thing to do, the password is based on a checksum with the username, change user names with useradd
B) to recover the ability to enter your root account check out this link http://www.linuxforums.org/security/howto:_recover_root_password.html it should help you out.
