Fargo isn’t an obvious place to turn for al-Qaida and counterterrorism expertise.

Jarret Brachman wants to change that.

The new hire at North Dakota State University is launching a homeland security research and education center.

Brachman, who recently directed West Point’s Combating Terrorism Center, wants NDSU to be the “go-to place” for strategies on keeping transportation systems secure from terrorism threats.

The new center will be through NDSU’s Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute.
