The nickname the chips is amusing because CMU is about a 5 minute drive to the Soaring Eagle Casino ... if anything I would find that more offensive then being called the Chippewas. At CMU the whole argument was not brought up by the tribe or people associated with them. It was brought up by people who had too much time on their hand and not enough to whine about. In fact, the tribe was honored we had the nickname we did because they knew CMU took it very seriously. Anyone found in any form of indian attire that would be degrading in any form was immeaditly expelled from the game, with the possibility of never being able to go to a sporting even ever and possible expulsion from CMU as well. That and we had to take culture classes and there were Native American classes in both catagories that we could take.
My opinion is this ... if the Sioux find this offensive then yes, get rid of it. However, if they do not take offensive to it keep it as is. Trust me you do not want to be know as the flying S ... oooooh fear the flying letter
