Title: Should the Pope apologize?

If the Catholic Church truly believes that Islam is "evil and inhuman," shouldn't they refuse to apologize?  Why would he say such a thing to begin with, since world tensions are so high right now?  Do you think the Catholics should stand up for what they believe, that Islam should be destroyed, or should they apologize?

Personally, I think the Catholic Church is pretty far afield from the teachings of Christ anyway, but I'm not religious, so who am I to judge?
