'Significant winter storm' possible Saturday night, Sunday

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The National Weather Service office here says that although parts of the Red River Valley are enduring snow and wind gusts, the weekend could be much worse.
The weather service says a "significant winter storm" is possible Saturday night through Sunday.
"It appears the heavier snow may fall over northeastern North Dakota into northwestern Minnesota at this time," a weather service notice says. "Northerly winds will increase Saturday night and Sunday behind a powerful cold front, and blowing and drifting snow will likely produce hazardous travel conditions and reduced visibilities later this weekend.

I will believe it when I see it. They quite often aren't correct on these "big" predictions. Of course I wouldnt mind the snow, we could use a bit more so sledding would be a little more feasible. 8)

How is the snow in Fargo? We've got at least four inches up here.
I'd like some more, but I'm not looking forward to the temperature drop early next week.

You can still see the top of the grass... so not much.
The cold will be the worst part.

Yeah, we definitely have enough for sledding on the levees up here. It's not iced up so much that you can ride a studded-tired biccyle up the hill yet though.

Lucky, well I am hoping for at least an inch more, that should be enough for winter fun!

We did get a bit of snow here in Fargo... I would guess at least 7 inches, but its hard to tell with all the drifting.
I did ride around a bit in a jeep in the blizzard (I know...). The roads werent terrible, just a lot of drifting and visibility wasnt the best.
Many businesses were closed today and that seems to have been a trend in most areas that recieved a lot of snow.

The blizzard that ripped through the Red River Valley was a major chill pill for businesses hoping to take advantage of the annual holiday rush.
With high winds, dangerous wind chills and nearly impassable side streets, most businesses decided not to open Sunday or closed early.
Even the West Acres mall and Moorhead Center Mall closed.
Not that it would have mattered. Many highways were closed and police and sheriff’s departments throughout the region advised no travel.
Interstate 29 was closed from the South Dakota border to Canada and Interstate 94 was closed from Jamestown, N.D., to Fergus Falls, Minn., throughout the day Sunday and into the evening.

...Interestingly the smaller city newspaper have very little about the weather on their websites.

Well, most of Grand Forks was nigh impassible yesterday due to drifting snow. I don't know how much accumulation we got, but I think it was a fair amount (probably about the same as Fargo).
Good things from the city: they started cleaning up downtown at about 10:30 last night, which is amazingly quick. The graders and the bucket loaders are still going this morning outside my window.
On a personal note, I rode my bicycle home from UND (2 miles) around 6 last night in -12 F, which is a new record for me!
