Logan's new/old wheels that he is borrowing
« on: January 03, 2010, 10:59:10 PM »
yo dudes, I have a friend up here who did a lot of triathlons and a few iron man's in the 90's, he is letting me borrow his pair of 1993 specialized tri-spoke wheels, sooo i was wondering if it was worth me bringing them, or are they out of date. they are heavy, but i think they are fairly aero. here is a link to a picture of wheels that are very similar to the ones that i now have...

If nothing else you can put the front one on your fixed-gear.

I have no idea.  You should know by now that I'm not the one to ask about equipment. :)

If you have ways to bring them-DO IT!!! They are still used in TT and triathlons by many people. I would personally use them.
The minimum number of bikes one should own is three.  The correct number is n+1, where n is the number of bikes currently owned.  This equation may also be re-written as s-1, where s is the number of bikes owned that would result in separation from your partner.

What do they weigh. Aero will always trump weight. Mario... tri spokes from the 90's are waaaaaaay diff than the ones from now. Depending on how much it would cost to ship them down here and then ship them back up for whenever you leave you might just put that amount of money into a new set of aero wheels. You can get brand spanking new reynolds wheels these days for $850 on bonktown.

The tri-spokes are pretty sick wheels... but the tri-spoke from the 90's might not even be as good as ur neuvations.

Looks to me like a copy of the HED tri spoke design, which is still one of the most aero wheels out there (and designed in Minneapolis).
Just try and step to UND Cycling if you wanna test your luck.

according to a sticker on the wheels, the cyclist who won the 4000m pursuit in 1993 used them... hahahahahaha. i'm still bringing them down, shouldn't cost that much to ship. thanks for the info guys, I'll be in town on sunday if anyone wants to ride
