Headwaters 100
« on: September 12, 2008, 01:40:57 PM »
I'm sending in my registration today; I'm assuming I want to do the 100 mile road race, correct?

Save $$$ by sending in your form postmarked by Monday (Sep 15th).

For those who don't want to race, there are other options:
Quote
100 Mile Ride:  Follow a well-marked route through
our beautiful lakes area leading you to Itasca State
Park. A short hike will lead you to the Headwaters of
the mighty Mississippi. The ride will follow
Wilderness Drive through the park, then will
proceed through Lake George, Emmaville, Dorset,
Nevis, and will follow the beautiful Heartland Trail
back to the finish at Century School in Park Rapids.

75 Mile Ride:  This route will lead you to Itasca
State Park, where a shor t footpath will bring you to
the Headwaters of the mighty Mississippi.
Continue on the Wilderness Drive through the park,
and then follow the course back to Centur y School
by way of Lake George, Emmaville, and Dorset,
finishing the ride on our beautiful Hear tland Trail.

45 Mile Ride:  This ride is ideal for bikers who
desire a shor ter route. It will be a beautiful ride
through Emmaville and Nevis, back to the finish at
Centur y School. We encourage leisurely tourers to
star t early.

100 Mile Road Race: This race will wind among
the lakes and woodlands near Park Rapids and
around, NOT through, Itasca State Park. Race will
begin at 10:00 AM SHARP. Championship timing
station will close at 5:00 PM. Awards will be
presented to first three in each age/gender class.
Trophies will be awarded to first male and first
female overall.

EVERYONE wants to race. If you get dropped... just ride at ur own pace because if you do the "fun ride" *cough NDSU cough* its like a 75 mile (or whatever distance) ITT.

Use this race to build experience. I have also spoken with Larry a number of times and at least last year, he counted this race towards a cat 4 upgrade. Its decent experience. Go... ride with the peloton. Ask Mario... he'll tell you.

Yeah...Mario will tell you
The minimum number of bikes one should own is three.  The correct number is n+1, where n is the number of bikes currently owned.  This equation may also be re-written as s-1, where s is the number of bikes owned that would result in separation from your partner.

Nice work. Looks like the pace was about the same as last year. Were their still the same amount of yahoo's trying to pass on the dirt?

The pace was slightly faster (my time was almost 2min faster than last year), but the first part of the race was slower and than we picked up a lot in the second half when I went upfront and started to do some pulls and chasing breakaways down:-). It seamed that this year there was less yahoo's. There was though another crash coming to the finish line during sprint.Fortunately I was upfront!
