Below is an article about Winter Fest that appeared in the Grand Forks Herald and has some information on the other things that are going on.

Winter Fest includes breakfast, run/walk, 'Souper Bowl'
By Ryan Johnson
Grand Forks Herald - 01/28/2009
Valentine’s Day usually is considered to be a holiday for spending quality time with a loved one — or a day to get through as quickly as possible.
But this year, it’s also going to be Winter Fest, a day full of events and activities along the river in the downtown Grand Forks and East Grand Forks.
The day will begin with a $5 pancake and sausage breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. at the VFW in East Grand Forks. The Souper Bowl, a made-from-scratch soup cook-off,
starts at 8 a.m. The competing soups will be available for sale in the afternoon.
A team of two to five is highly recommended, but a single cook also can compete in the challenge.
There is an entry fee of $25 per team, with the winning team receiving a $100 Hugo’s gift card, as well as cash and other prizes. The first 15 teams to register also receive a
$20 Hugo’s gift card.
Prizes will be given out for best showmanship and the people’s choice recipe, as well.
The registration deadline is Feb. 6, but late registrants may be accepted based on available space.
Winter Fest also will provide plenty of opportunities to burn off those extra
calories.
The Frozen Feat 5K run/walk is set to begin at 10 a.m., with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Blue Moose Bar and Grill. There is a $20 entry fee to participate, with
all proceeds benefiting the regional Special Olympics division.
Free cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals will be available from the Ski and Bike Shop, as well.
A USCC snowmobile race will take place on the river, beginning with a parade lap at 9:30 a.m.
A variety of other events for the entire family also are scheduled, including ice fishing demonstrations, snow kiting demonstrations, dog sled rides and a broomball
tournament provided by the UND Wellness Center.
