Guys @ 1130 aerospace laptops started getting motherboard alerts for virus'. Don't know how it got in yet, I haven't gotten it yet. Everyone in my loran class is getting it... computers beeping like crazy.
Watch out! Someone x post this as necessary!

People have been saying they're getting it at home and on campus... so far it appears to be isolated to the aerospace notebooks... interested if anyone else got it

Update... it appears that the crappy mcafee that they force us to use is actually updating itself with a corrupt file. It would only be an issue if you're using UND's mcafee software.
-
Biology was hit by something bad as well this week.
Why is McAfee crappier than any other software?
-
It isn't. I don't use it regularly because I have symantecs enterprise legally and for free from SUNY which is basically norton with free updates for life. So I'm just more used to their GUI. Both have caught things the other hadn't.
What happened at bio?
-
Just switch to Avast or AVG or some other free option.
-
MS Security Essentials works quite well in my experience.
-
I have symantec corporate edition (free updates for life) I only have mcafee on the schools laptop, and my updates are disabled.
-
Really though, (sorry dbl post) I think the best concept is smart internet use? I mean really... viruses? It's 2010... who has the energy anymore?
-
No more worrying after I take the plunge (http://talk.campusdakota.com/index.php?topic=5114.0;all) soon! ;)
Viruses are so 20th century.

It's less Internet and more that things are out on jump drives now, I think. I blame CILT since every instructor computer on campus has these things--it's like picking up fleas at a hotel.
-
CILT?
-
Center for Instructional Learning Technology = the people who take care of all the classroom equipment.
-
Ah gotcha.
