So what do you do to ensure your computer is secure? Firewall, antivirus, anything?
-
for windows:
Comodo Firewall
Comodo Defense+
AVG AntiVirus
Spybot S&D
Lavasoft AdAware
No-Script for Firefox
At home on my linux computers i have the whole network covered with a SmoothWall firewall..oh yeah and the whole house runs linux...security problems...Ha!

So you only use Smoothwall for Linux?
For Windows:
Zonealarm Security Suite
McAfee Antivius (the one we get from the U. System)
Adaware 2007
Spybot S&D
No-script for Firefox
I also have some other programs I run now and then.
For Linux:
I am trying to decide what to use.

Using Shorewall at the moment for the server I have set up. Probably some other things too, but mostly these are related to email security.

For Windows I was using the McAffee available through Campus but it truly sucks so I uninstalled it and put Threatfire (http://www.threatfire.com (http://www.threatfire.com)) which is a behavior based AV, much better than McAffee
For my Ubuntu 8.10 I am looking at putting bastile linux (http://bastille-linux.sourceforge.net/running_bastille_on.htm (http://bastille-linux.sourceforge.net/running_bastille_on.htm)) for hardening and securing my boxes

can't say I have much for security on my boxes... my winXP computers just run AVG and no script. Then i'm smart about where I go on the net, and have my router configured properly. I have had zero issues in my 8 years of being on broadband.

I actually recently switched to UFW (uncomplicated firewall) for Ubuntu. It's pretty easy to set up once you have some working examples. Allowing only certain ports is a breeze, allowing certain ports for certain IP ranges is a little more difficult.

I have thought about using Threatfire, but last I checked it wasnt compatible with 64 bit windows... and on looking again.. it still doesnt :(
I just reinstalled ubuntu so I will have to try out those firewalls etc. Thanks for the suggestions.
