North Dakota State University is waiting for an answer from a potential buyer for the naming rights to a proposed Fargodome addition, Athletic Director Gene Taylor said.

The university made the pitch about two weeks ago to the potential buyer, which is a local company, Taylor said Tuesday.

Mayor Dennis Walaker said the company asked for 30 days to make a decision.

The company also asked NDSU not to identify it publicly, Taylor said.

“They want to make the decision without a lot of public pressure,” he said.

The university hopes to raise about $15 million by selling the naming rights to cover its share of the proposed dome addition, which would host NDSU basketball games and other events and cost an estimated $31 million.

“It may take more than one (buyer) to get there,” Taylor said, adding the university has yet to approach other local groups that have expressed interest in buying the naming rights.
