Nice!

How long did that take you?

Eh... i bought it in dec of 2000. Had it running those track times for summer of 2005. Wrecked it fall semester of 2006. STolen that same time.

edit: the *****es that stole the car tho will never get it working again. I ruined the ECU. Plus... they would need a stand alone fuel controller to sort the mess out.

You built your own car.. sweet.  Was it a kit or totally custom?

It was sort of totally custom...

It started as a 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage rolling chassis. (which is the same CP9A as the Lancer Evolution IV, V, VI and 6.5)

So I got it, took it all apart. And rebuilt it. Not like a bodykit or anything like that... this was a total rebuild. The ONLY differences between my car and a "real" 1998 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V RS were...

*** Disclaimer... car talk***

1. I stayed away from AWD (I was waiting until I blew my motor to upgrade it)
2. Instead of Brembo 6 Pots I used Powerslots with 4 pots and Carbon pads (2 pot rear calipers)
3. My car had a sunroof. (Only an option on the GSR but those weren't available in LHD)

Thats basically it. Alas tho... she was wrecked and then stolen. Yes in that order. and NO I don't wanna talk about it.

Here's pics.

Was running a consistent 13.2 in the 1/4 mile on 100 octane and street tires at 10psi of boost.
Ran a 12.3 on slicks and 100 octane at 14psi of boost.

And it was a MONSTER on the road course.

I have been trying to find out, since my inspection from VT is almost expired.  According to Wikipedia, North Dakota does not require annual inspections, but I just wanted to make sure.

Matt, even if state inspection is required in ND if you have VT plates on ur car and ur inspection expires it means nothing. Each state can only enforce their specific laws. So if you got pulled over with VT plates and ur VT inspection was expired... you'd be ok... unless you were in VT.

I speak from 1st hand experience. Since my last car (which I built) would NEVER pass inspection (emissions) in NY. So I drove it with no inspection for a long time including in NC and got stopped for it. They just said... make sure you get some NC plates.

I would love to have kept my VT plates, but I had to officially change my residency so I wouldn't have to start paying my own tuition this past summer.  To do this at UND, you have to change your license and your registration.

I just never learned about the inspection deal, and I never thought about it until I got out here (I never ended up being the one to get the car inspected back home).  Now I know!

Essentially they make sure that your car is road legal, which in the case of many people would mean fixing up rust, filling holes, and replacing taillight covers.

Shit that sucks.  Glad we dont have to deal with all of that here.

If memory serves, I took it to a shop, paid them to hook it up to a emissions machine and do a quick verification that the brakes worked and stuff, then they gave me a paper showing that it had passed, as well as a sticker in the window, and I took the paper to the license bureau to get tabs.

Far worse, though, was paying "personal property" tax -- I remember thinking it was pretty sweet, the first time I got license tabs, because it was only about 20 bucks.  Then I got my PPT bill at the end of the year, and it was over $300 for my car.

So do they actually physically inspect your car or do you take it to some place that is authorized to do it or what?

I needed one when I lived in Missouri -- basically just another tax.

Do a lot of states require inspections?  I dont remember ever having to do it when I was in Iowa.

No we do not require inspections at all. Mostly because of the lovely farmers. If they had to inspect some of their vehicles they wouldn't pass EPA inspection in Mexico.
