« on: April 06, 2006, 09:12:53 PM »
Tired of all the problems with windows?  Or are you just looking to try a different operating system?  Check out Ubuntu Linux... its FREE.

You can either install it on your computer, or you can run it from a CD.  Check out more information at

http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,120520,00.asp

...If you dont want to download it, I have some CD's from the company.  Send me a pm if you want one.

What sort of firewall comes with Ubuntu, or do you have a recommended one to download

I am not sure if it has one built in or not.  I personally run it behind a hardware firewall, so I never worried about.  I can send you a copy that was professionally pressed on a CD if you want.  It has both an install CD and a Live CD where you can run the OS without even installing it.  If you want to give it a try just let me know and I can drop one in the mail for you, just PM me your address, or you could always download it.

For firewalls etc. I would look at the following links (but I havent checked these out much and I havent used them) :

http://rob.pectol.com/content/view/2/57/ -- Linux Firewall made for Ubuntu
http://www.smoothwall.org/  -- Linux Firewall

http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/search.php?searchid=294827 -- Searched Firewall on a Linux message board.

http://logi.cc/linux/athome-firewall.php3 -- Firewall options
http://spidertools.com/ubuntu_apt.php -- How to setup a firewall

http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,126240/article.html  -- About Linux anti-virus and firewalls.
http://www.kaspersky.com/linux_fileserver -- Kaspersky AV

Let me know.

I am really sick of windows.  My computer just died the other day and one of the problems was that windows couldn't find itself to boot.  I couldn't even start is in safe mode.  It was the biggest headache ever.  Can I get a copy of that Linux?  I'll give it a try.
