Pet Peeves...
« on: September 20, 2007, 12:59:16 PM »
While I was driving home last night, I had a "stupid driver encounter" and it made me think of starting this topic.

I really hate people that run red lights---not just a "whoops, I ran that red light" occurrence with their car just barely clearing the intersection, but blatantly running a red light in order to save a precious 2 minutes of their time.

Case in point:There was a semi on Gateway last night that was approaching the intersection at 20th Street. The light turned yellow and the truck hadn't even began to cross the intersection, so there was no way this guy was going to make it through the light. As you can imagine...his whole truck basically drove through the red light, causing the person who had the green light to wait for about 10 seconds before they could finally go. And that's my pet peeve. The person stuck on the other side of the light because some idiot chose to run the other light.

What are some of your pet peeves?

I hate people like that.

Bad drivers is my worst pet peeve.  I also cant stand those people the drive way below the speed limit, especially on the interstate in the left lane.

How about those who insist on having booming bass you can hear coming from a half mile away, that rattles everything within a block of it, and sounds like crap from everwhere....seriously, what is the point of it being so obmoxiously loud?

I'll take both your pet peeves and give you another.

What bugs me is people who break bottles/glasses etc. when they come out of the bar at night.  Yes, I know you're drunk, and I realize that an empty bottle is offensive to you, but do you really have to smash it on the ground where I have to ride my bicycle through it every day?

Yet another...

People who wait inside their cars by the curb right outside the entrance to a store. Not only are they blocking traffic and pedestrian visibility, but this area is often designated as an emergency lane.

My favorite part is when we roll up in a fire truck (on a call) and they dont get the hell out of the way.

^ The Herald making you do the same thing (of course, they are owned by the Forum now).

There was an article somewhere recently about how this is a silly idea, since people don't have to pay for news--paper newspapers have always made their money on advertising, so why do online newspapers suddenly think that they can make money on people paying for the news?

When interlibrary loan sends me a paper copy of the sheet that tells me why I can't have that loaned to me (you know, the one that says where you can find this in our own library) rather than emailing it.  It's a waste of paper and someone's time.

Another one you reminded me of: the library charging you a reshelving fee for a book that was just barely late at the end of the semester.  It does not take $10 to go put a book back in the stacks.  If you're thinking in terms of hourly wages, that's like two hours of student work right there.

Resurrecting this topic because I like it . . .

When people choose to be BOTH pedestrians and cyclists.  Using the sidewalk to cross the street, then riding down the street.  Pushing the button for the pedestrian signal and then riding across the sidewalk because they don't want to wait.  This confuses drivers and amounts to one less rider on the road, which makes life suck more for the rest of us.

Hey now, nothing wrong with that... better than the same ringtone everyone has so that 20 people look at their phone to see if its them. :P

I have one of those anoying ringtones... but its incubus so its badass.

what drives me nuts is people that will sit and wait for a close spot in the parking lot when you're not even in you're car yet... just getting to it to unlock it... Then i proceed to sit in it until they leave, and as soon as they leave then I back out.

Rule of thumb, if the revers lights aren't on, don't stop and wait... Lazy biotches...

You guys must deal with the same people!

It peeves me a little bit when I'm somewhere that's playing background music (coffeeshop, etc.), and someone sits there with their laptop blaring something totally different.  It's not a bad thing if you want to listen to your own thing, but get a pair of headphones or something.  It's jarring to listen to two things at once and maybe try to get something done.

Parents who let their children run loose in the museum and drag their hands on the glass till it squeals.. then don't watch them in the gift shop as they touch everything!!!!
The world is a big place to have a closed mind... so hold still while i get the hacksaw.
