Graduate student survey
« on: October 28, 2009, 03:00:23 PM »
Received this as an email on a listserv I get.  He'd probably appreciate as many responses as he can get.

All,

Before you answer this, kindly remember to do so _OFF LIST_. I suggest pressing "Foward" then typing "[email protected]"in the "to" box.

A discussion in my department in particular and my university generally concerns starting and/or expanding graduate programs, and one contribution I plan to make to department's discussion is to compare what other universities offer (wages, insurance, tuition waiver) versus what I consider the meager offerings that our university presently provides.

Thus, if you are so inclined, I would be curious to know:

(1) What salary teaching assistants earn at your university
(2) What tuition waiver they do (or do not) receive
(3) Any other benefits (eg, health insurance)
and, if easily stated, what the general expectation is, e.g., how many labs/hours per week, etc.

Obviously, graduate students are welcome to respond to this as well.

Again, before you hit the "reply" think twice and use "forward."

Thanks in advance for your thoughts,

Andy

That will be useful information.  The Graduate Student Association at NDSU is conducting a survey that should gather similar information... I will make the info available as it comes out.

It would be interesting to see the results of the above survey.. if you see them Sal, please post them.
