You can't think like that! That way lies madness! If we work out "best for most people" no more good food, no more dangerous sports, no more driving no more freedom.

It is best for most people coupled with a cost/benefit analysis.
Not eating cheeseburgers would help keep the average cholesterol in the US down, which would put less stress on the health care system, which would mean fewer hospitals, which would mean less taxpayer money going to build things, which would be better for all of us. We should outlaw cheeseburgers!
Once you jump to the conclusion that you have the idea that is "the best for everyone," you have to start worrying about all the other things that could happen if someone else decides they know what's best for you.
